Lighting concept in the parcel logistics center of the Post

Light for performance, safety and sustainability

Since 2002, the Austrian Post has been operating a parcel logistics center in Vienna-Inzersdorf. The new building, whose groundbreaking took place in March 2022, was ceremonially opened in April 2024. While the existing hall continues to be used for deliveries, the new building represents the largest logistics center of its kind in Austria. The project secures over 1,500 jobs and creates more than 100 new ones – a strong signal for innovation and growth in the Austrian logistics industry.

Project data

Commissioning: April 2024
New light strip system: TRAIL
Area: 22,000 m²
Project type: New construction

Products:

  • TRAIL Light Inserts and Support Rails
  • 3ONE Basic Damp Room Batten Lights
  • FIT and ENERGY Recessed Lights
  • RODIO Floodlights and Pole Solutions
  • SUNRAY III and GET ROUND Flat Downlights

What Makes the Project Special

The dimensions of the center are impressive: With a processing capacity of over 250,000 packages per day, Vienna-Inzersdorf sets new standards. Three specialized sorting systems and automatic unloading systems (AutoUnloader) ensure highly automated processes. At the same time, great emphasis was placed on sustainability: A photovoltaic system with 2 megawatts of power, a green roof, and an air-water heat pump for heating underline the ecological aspirations of the building.

Customized lighting solution for high-performance logistics

Molto Luce has implemented a precisely tuned lighting system that meets both the high demands of automation and the complex work processes. Thanks to powerful LED lights, compliant lighting, and intelligent control, we provide a visually ergonomic environment that minimizes workplace accidents and enhances safety.

Control and Technology

The system is based on a DALI2 control that was used for TRAIL, FIT, 3ONE, and floodlight fixtures. This technology allows for precise, energy-efficient light control, tailored to the different usage scenarios in the logistics center. The control also ensures easy integration into existing building management technology and offers high user comfort.

Our lighting concept addresses central challenges:

  1. Uniform, glare-free illumination prevents mistakes at machines and increases precision.
  2. Reduction of fatigue through optimal brightness – important during long shifts.
  3. Intelligent control prevents over-illumination and lowers energy costs.
  4. Reduction of maintenance effort thanks to durable LED technology.
  5. Targeted light direction prevents shadow formation in conveyor technology and shelving systems.

All advantages at a glance

  • Maximum efficiency in package processing through coordinated lighting planning
  • Highest automation and future-proof infrastructure
  • Sustainable building concept supported by energy-efficient lighting
  • Reduced energy consumption thanks to modern DALI2 technology
  • Safer workplaces through optimal visibility conditions
  • Long-term cost savings through intelligent control and durable LED solutions
