Hotel MOXY

Den Haag / Netherlands

Playing with space and reality

The interior design of the MOXY in The Hague was created by Kitzig Design Studios (Germany), who were inspired by elements from two of the city's cultural highlights: the former official residence of Queen Beatrix of Holland and the Escher Museum, which is now located in the building. Escher's play with perspectives, space and reality, as well as the generous dimensions and dignified colours of royal rooms are the decisive themes for the hotel design.

Architecture-related and use-oriented - lighting designer Rob Clemens of Clemens Lichtadvies (Holland) solved this lighting task by highlighting certain objects, colours, structures and areas with light - and conveying a feeling of security through more subtle, indirect lighting. His ingenious lighting design, tuned to the small-scale as well as overall spatial effect, together with the interior design, created a reality of its own that makes MOXY unique.

As the building is also Breeam-certified (rating system for ecological and socio-cultural aspects of the sustainability of buildings), aspects of sustainability and energy saving were also relevant in the selection of the luminaires.
